Just a Skirmish? Or are We Headed Into WW3?
When I was a kid, Jimmy Carter was President of the US. The Iranian Hostage crises, in which Islamic Revolutionaries stormed the US Embassy in Tehran captured and held hostages, lasted throughout the final year of Carter’s Presidency, and that crisis ended just before Reagan could be sworn into office. Reagan threatened to end the hostage crisis and take out the Ayotolla. He won his Presidency as a plain-talking tough guy.
Trump is much the same. He also has long memories of Iran being a dick to the US, and he’s tired of those people trying to push us around when we have clear interests in the region, much of which resolves around keeping oil on a fair market.
Yep, Trump ordered the elimination of Solemani, Iran’s 2nd in command, a designated leader of the Quds Force and a categorized terrorist organization. But the Press, eager for page clicks, and doing their usual fear mongering, has whipped up tons of people into thinking we are going into a war in the Middle East and perhaps even instituting a draft.
Well, I wouldn’t worry. Iran has been making threats for 40 years and their bluster today is just business as usual. While I do expect some attack attempts from the Iranians, they are no match for our forces today. Stay calm and remember that the press has a job to earn newsbait clicks.
Also keep in mind, the world as you know it today, where you have to go through magnetometers at theme parks and airports and remove shoes to get on a flight, is all because of the shenanigans Iran started. If we have to finally confront this menace after 40 years of their antagonization and hatred of us, all I can say is it’s about time.
