Hurricane Sandy Will Be a Snoozer
At least for me in my location outside of Washington DC. The storm is projected to come ashore up the Delaware Bay as a category 1 storm with winds around 75 MPH. The big danger will be the storm surge which will occur in bottlenecked bays and rivers. In fact, the worst case scenario predicts up to 8 feet of storm surge hitting the islands around Manhattan. But that’s the worst case scenario, and I don’t think it will be that bad. I think this storm has been hyped up so much that it will be impossible for it to live up to its projected disastrous reputation.
Yes, power outages will happen in Democrat states like New Jersey and Maryland, and that’s mostly because the utility companies there have to pay too much money to unionized utility laborers to cut dangerous tree branches. I’ve been there and their utility maintenance is atrocious.
But they have already cancelled school in my county for tomorrow and for Tuesday too, so we get some extended family time in the upcoming days. Winds at my house will get up to about 45 MPH, which is nothing compared to recent storms in the area. Sandra is a non-threat.
The Derecho, or Stormageddon, that swept through Northern Virginia on July 1st was far more violent than Sandy is going to be, and it dumped much more rain than is predicted as well. And this isn’t the first overly hyped storm. Check out this frightened couple trapped in their home during Hurricane Irene in 2011:
UPDATE! This is why I love Virginians. We don’t think hyping a storm is cool and we constantly try to clown the idiotic weathermen.
