Bridge Building for Islam
So they are going to build a mega mosque right next to Ground Zero in New York City. They are doing it, they say, so they can “build bridges” and provide a way for Muslims to reflect. Well, Greg Gutfield has a very similar idea. He is going to purchase property right next to this mega mosque to open up the first Muslim Gay Bar. And he’s looking for investors.
From the DailyGut here:
So, the Muslim investors championing the construction of the new mosque near Ground Zero claim it’s all about strengthening the relationship between the Muslim and non-Muslim world.
As an American, I believe they have every right to build the mosque – after all, if they buy the land and they follow the law – who can stop them?
Which is, why, in the spirit of outreach, I’ve decided to do the same thing.
I’m announcing tonight, that I am planning to build and open the first gay bar that caters not only to the west, but also Islamic gay men. To best express my sincere desire for dialogue, the bar will be situated next to the mosque Park51, in an available commercial space.
This is not a joke. I’ve already spoken to a number of investors, who have pledged their support in this bipartisan bid for understanding and tolerance.
As you know, the Muslim faith doesn’t look kindly upon homosexuality, which is why I’m building this bar. It is an effort to break down barriers and reduce deadly homophobia in the Islamic world.

UPDATE: HotAir’s Allahpundit suggests “Scimitars” for the bar’s name!
He needs a pay pal account so we can all kick in and help!
Can we build a gay bar next to Westboro Baptist Church while we are at it?
Sounds like a fine idea to me, but I think the New York club would actually be a successful business. Where is the Westboro crew from anyways? (too lazy to google)
True, but there are a ton of gay bars and probably even a gay district in NYC, both of these will be successful based on the novelty approach then anything else. Westburo is in Topeka, not exactly the worlds smallest town (though admittedly not that huge), and no doubt they have a few gay people that live there too.
You seem to know a lot about Gay bars. I’ll take your word on it. ๐
And you know a bunch about Kansas too, so you got that going for you.
LOL never been in a gay bar and only been in Kansas once and didn’t go farther then Lawrence and mostly spent time in KC (once upon a time I wanted to go to KU for grad school). But I figure they call that part of the state butt fuck Egypt for a reason :-p.
I think its actually called “Bumfuk” Egypt, but that’s okay. Hey when you reply to comments, do you see a blank page? I think I’ve got some issues with my PHP
