Food Activists Now Targeting Denny’s

Nick DeBenedetto, who is likely related to someone at CSPI if past history is any basis of a trend, is suing Denny’s because he thinks they have been poisoning his dumbass with salt because he eats salty food there. He got all butthurt when he found out that eggs, bacon and sausage have sodium in it. If you don’t like the food somewhere, don’t go in there and eat it, dumbass.

From UPI here:

A class action lawsuit filed Thursday by a New Jersey man alleges meals at Denny’s contain unsafe salt levels, a non-profit group said.

The lawsuit, filed with the support of the food advocacy nazi group Center for Science in the Public Interest in Washington, seeks to compel Denny’s to disclose on menus the amount of sodium in each of its meals and to place a notice on its menus warning about high sodium levels.

Nick DeBenedetto, a 48-year-old resident of Tinton Falls, N.J., said he has eaten for many years at Denny’s restaurants but does not cook with salt or use the salt shaker at home. He is being treated for high blood pressure.

“I was astonished to find that these simple sandwiches have more salt than someone in my condition should have in a whole day,” DeBenedetto said in a statement.

I have written about CSPI before and how they use family members to file frivolous lawsuits in order to have everything you eat papered with dozens of labels. The Chief Kook of CSPI, Michael Jacobsen only wants people to eat at most, a little bread, a carrot and a potato per day. He goes on to explain that ice cream will kill you.

Let’s hope that New Jersey judges do what is right and tosses this stupid lawsuit out of the court.

Do not talk about fight club. Oops.

  • You are making me drool with that picture, Pat.

Here’s a suggestion, America: Educate yourself about food. Take a nutrition class. Have a working knowledge in your head about how food works. And then you will KNOW something is going to have too much sodium for your body.

    Take some OWNERSHIP, people.

    Denny’s rocks.

  • BACON TASTES GOOD!!!!

  • Poppy: I’ll play a devil’s advocate here for a second. Obviously you are an educated consumer having taken nutrition classes and you will have no problem ascertaining the amount of sodium on that plate, right? The legitimacy of the group’s action notwithstanding, I’ll excuse your glib comment that one can take a class to learn the amount of salt additive at a particular establishment. I would’ve been more likely to accept, “Taste for salt, idiots!”

Interestingly enough, the people who have the time and resources to take nutrition classes are not the ones who eat at Denny’s anyways. I enjoy occasional venture to Denny’s, IHOP, etc., but you know what they say about too much of a good thing.

  • Sodium is only half of the salt equation, but how about I just say “you win” and we’ll let everyone keep making it the fault of restaurants that we’re in the condition we’re in, rather than being responsible adults.

  • You know I can think of a couple of food items that I haven’t had since I was a kid, but when I tasted them recently, the salt really made me almost want to spit it out. One was Spam. How that remains the number one canned good in America, I have no idea. The next is Cheez Whiz. I tried some on a sandwich and wow that is really just orange goop colored salt.

But I won’t try to get the companies shut down because the products have so much sodium. Besides, Denny’s publishes its nutrition facts on its website.
