When it Comes to Holocaust Denying Obama Supporters, Reston Just Said No

I love my new adopted hometown of Reston.  It is a beautiful planned town with a robust commercial Town Center and beautiful tree-lined communities.  But there are some extremist liberals that infest the neighborhood.  Take Ken Meyercord for instance.  He is a holocaust denier, wants to choose who gets to have children and who gets sterilized, and was rabidly anti-war during the Iraq war and wrote books fantasizing about an invasion of the US.  He tried to run for the Reston Citizens Association and was destroyed by a write-in campaign as a reaction to his disgusting personal politics.

From the WashingtonPost here:

Ken Meyercord has an Ivy League education, a high-tech job at Freddie Mac, a local public-access cable television show on international affairs and a long history of writing about what he says are “myths” of the Holocaust, including a piece called “(Holo-) History is Bunk.”

Survivor accounts of the cremation process gives new meaning to the word ‘tragicomic,’ ” he wrote in the article. “To hear eyewitnesses tell it, it took little more than a match for the corpses to spontaneously combust.”

Residents, mortified by his views on the Holocaust, have thrown together a last-minute write-in campaign to stop him.

In an interview yesterday, Meyercord described himself as “a Holocaust revisionist,” taking pains to distinguish himself from Holocaust deniers. He also denies that Nazis used gas chambers to murder Jews, saying gas chambers did not exist, and expresses skepticism that the number of Holocaust victims reached 6 million.

His other writings include a piece comparing Israel’s treatment of Gaza to the Nazis’ handling of the Warsaw Ghetto; an apocalyptic fantasy in which an invasion of the United States is an allusion to the war in Iraq; and a booklet called “The Ethic of Zero Growth” that argues for holding the world’s population at current levels. And Meyercord has posted the lyrics of two song parodies on the Web, including an off-color, political satire set to “America the Beautiful” called “America the Doody-full.”Meyercord said his views of history changed after living in the Middle East. After attending Dartmouth, he obtained a master’s degree at American University in Beirut, where he also met his wife, who is Palestinian, and became more sympathetic the Arab view of the conflict with Israel.

The WaPo was being kind in their descriptions of this racist.  Meyercord only received 23 votes in the election.  A write-in campaign elected Colin Mills instead with 1,157 votes.  Way to go Reston!

  • Er, why are you mentioning that Meyercord was an Obama supporter, and what is your basis for claiming that? Are you under the impression that the candidate who won the write-in campaign (and who was the incumbent anyway) was NOT an Obama voter?

Moreover, Meyercord’s views are historically more associated with extreme conservatism than extreme liberalism. Pat Buchanan has engaged in Holocaust revisionism (http://reformjudaismmag.net/1096ca.html); Noam Chomsky hasn’t (at most, Chomsky has defended free speech by opposing European hate speech laws that make Holocaust denial a crime).

  • My basis for claiming that he was and still is an Obama supporter is based on the facts that he is an Obama supporter.

Why is a Sacremento guy like yourself so interested in Colin Mills’ victory? Or are you just trolling the internet looking to take swipes at people who chide so-called “holocaust revisionists?”

Do you hate the Jews PG? Why?

  • Yes, PG, what are you such an anti-Semite. Don’t you know being a stickler for facts makes you a Jew hater and a troll?

  • Igor,
Thanks for checking out the blog.
I didn’t dispute any of the “facts” he put into his comment what few he mentioned. And just to clarify, hating jews makes one a “jew hater” and trolling websites is what makes one a “troll.” Being a stickler for facts is fine by me.

  • Just being a little facetious. I can understand the knee jerk reaction on your part to label anyone bad an Obama voter, but the fact remains that holocaust denialists are usually to the far right of the political spectrum. And got some on the far left due to the practical realities of middle east conflict.

Just an observation on my part that accusation of anti-Semitism has become a politically expedient tool for some people who don’t like us very much either.

  • Igor, I know you lingered a while to check out the site and I appreciate that. I hope you will bookmark it and come back often.

I labeled him an Obama voter because that is what he was- a liberal who voted for Obama. I labeled him as such because Obama was supposed to inspire a post-racialism that would sweep America, but it seems that many racists voted for Obama because his agenda fit their own.

  • Ken Meyercord

    Actually, I didn’t vote.

  • Way to pick which part of this post to defend, Ken. Are you denying that you are an Obama supporter? Your leftist credentials speak for themselves.

  • Ken Meyercord

    I’m not an Obama supporter.

  • Your posts on Indymedia.org and chronic anti-war marching speaks far louder than your pathetic attempts to seperate your political affiliations, Ken.
