Someone Got Triple Dog Dared

I don’t remember it ever being this cold, even when I was a kid. This morning I got into the car to go to work and the thermometer on the dash said it was 11° F outside.  Then I read this article about some kids in Hammond, Indiana, the crappy town that A Christmas Story takes place in, who dared each other to stick their tongue on a metal pole.  With predictable results.

In a scene straight out of the movie “A Christmas Story,” a 10-year-old boy got his tongue stuck to a metal light pole. Police said the unidentified fourth-grader was able to tell them that a friend dared him to lick the pole Wednesday night. Temperatures in Hammond were around 10 degrees at the time.

By the time an ambulance arrived, the boy was able to yank his tongue off the frozen pole.  Ambulance personnel explained to the boy’s mother how to care for his bleeding tongue.

How do you treat a bleeding tongue?  Put ice on it?
