Drinking From a FireHose
Ever since I alerted HotAir and Michelle Malkin to the insidious teaching skills of Diantha Harris, my little website has been struggling to keep up with the bombardment of hits. Usually my site generates between 400 and 800 unique visitors per day. On Thursday I got 10,000 hits and I thought it was awesome.
Friday, it was 24,000 hits and my ISP suspended my account for 5 hours. It was like being put in Time Out. I assured the ISP that the traffic flood would subside when the news cycle finally forgot about Diantha Harris.
But the story kept growing. Glenn Beck linked to the site and sent email alerts to thousands of his listeners, and Matt Drudge picked up the story. On Saturday the hits went up to 40,000. Luckily, the main staff at the ISP seems to be gone on the weekends so they didn’t suspend me again. I had to pare down my webserver’s logfiles so they would rotate off quicker and at smaller sizes. At one point my webserver had a 1 GB logfile. The site is much smoother with a lighter log load too.
Anyways, I am greatly pleased to have the new visitors to the site! Bookmark me, blogroll me, and come back as often as you can. If the site becomes unreachable, it might be due to a needed upgrade to handle the traffic.
As far as Diantha Harris goes? Well, she got a lot of attention too. Michelle has an update here. She says:
Diatha Harris, the Obama-supporting teacher in Cumberland County, N.C. caught on tape hectoring a girl over her support for John McCain Harris now says “she should not have said that.” The student, Cathy Thompson, and her parents don’t want to see her punished.
Why? Because that’s how the teacher always behaves!
Michelle goes on to say that people can stop pestering the school. I agree. The superintendent is investigating, however, I don’t think much will happen to Harris. Hell, I have documented several cases where teachers rape their students and get put on paid leave. How such punishment is different from a free vacation is a mystery to me.
The traffic might have slown down if your site hadn’t been so hilarious! As a homeschooler, I got hooked because of the reasons to homeschool.
MamaG,
Thanks! I’m glad you like the site, and I hope you check back often. Unfortunately, reasons to homeschool tends to be a frequent topic of discussion here. This case was simply bad, but at least the kid got to keep her pants on! Usually teacher victims aren’t so lucky.
