What the Pig in Lipstick Comment Says About Obama
Barry Obama stepped into a huge steaming pile in Virginia yesterday with his “pig in lipstick” comment, which will go down in political history as a major gaffe in Presidential politics. Now whether or not he intended his comments to be taken as a reference to Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, many voters think that is exactly what he meant by it. And what this comment says about Obama? He’s inexperienced.
From ABCNews here:
“You know, you can put lipstick on a pig,” Obama said, “but it’s still a pig.”
The crowd rose and applauded, some of later telling reporters that they thought Obama had been alluding to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s ad lib during her vice presidential nomination acceptance speech last week, “What’s the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick.”
Someone with more practice in front of crowds would not have bumbled into that figure of speech. You don’t hear John McCain going around referring to the Obama Team as a “travelling minstrel show singing ‘Happy Are We Darkies So Gay,'” do you? You know why? Because McCain has the experience. Experience to lead.
