Vick Sentenced to 23 Months
As an update, Vick wore a black and white striped prison jumpsuit to court to be sentenced.
From the AP here:
Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison Monday for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy that involved gambling and killing pit bulls.
The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback could have been sentenced up to five years by District Judge Henry E. Hudson. Vick was dressed in a black-and-white striped prison suit and apologized to the court and his family.
Vick pleaded guilty in August, admitting he bankrolled the “Bad Newz Kennels” dogfighting operation and helped kill six to eight dogs.
He will probably be out earlier on good behavior, unless he stays true to form and is busted smoking dope in his jail cell. He still faces Virginia State charges too.
This is NOT nearly long enough for the barbaric acts for which this man in some way participated. And hopefully “federal” jails are not the “country clubs” we’ve been led to believe they are. Saving grace here is that he will be going back to trial for additional charges at some point for the State of Virginia.
BT,
Yeah, not long in Jail, but wow, did he pay a price in cold hard cash.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that his losses for his stupid dog fighting is over 142 Million dollars and growing.
That’s what I call punishment.
Sorry, Pat. Disagree with you in some aspects of this – blue camel or not, but… Yeah, sure, it’s punishment financially. However, I want this guy – and ANYONE else who fights dogs – to feel physical, hurtful, down on your knees asking for God to forgive you and praying that your Momma outlives you pain! BT
P.S. Will get the blue camel in the mail on Saturday. We’re in the weekend here, already, so will have to wait until our Monday, which is Saturday.
I’m with you on the dog fighting aspects, and the punishment. But I don’t think anyone busted for dog fighting has ever been financially self-penalized as much as Vick has been now.
I wonder if Virginia will hit him with stiff penalties or go easy on him? Remember, the current sentence has nothing really to do with the dogs- it was for interstate gambling and conspiracy.
Virginia I think is going to prosecute for animal cruelty. I don’t know how well it might stick. A recent case in the same area by PETA employees no less ended with only fines and community service.
