CrimeWhy Homeschool?You're Fired!

Reason 28 to Homeschool

Your third grader won’t be taught by a crackhead or a junkie.  Meet Krista Crosby.  She has a comic book name, and her superpower is the ability to fail spectacularly at being an educator.  She also has one of the most pathetic booking photos ever.

Krista brought her heroin and her pot to school because she just can’t make it through the day without her smack.

From Omaha.com here:

An Omaha Public Schools (OPS) teacher will be fired after bringing heroin and drug paraphernalia to the elementary school where she taught.

Krista Crosby, a third-grade teacher at Florence Elementary, 7902 North 36th St., was removed Thursday from her classroom.

An employee of the school found a bag containing possible narcotics that belonged to Crosby. A small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia were also found on Crosby, according to police.

Crosby will not be returning to OPS, because the evidence was apparent.

She is not the first OPS teacher arrested in a drug case.

Lynn Weibel was arrested at her home in 2005 and later convicted of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine. She was a fourth-grade teacher at Wakonda Elementary at the time, but was later fired.  Another OPS teacher, Jolene Cortez, was arrested earlier that year and convicted of conspiracy to distribute meth from her home. She was fired from her job as a second-grade teacher at Conestoga Magnet Center.

Meth must be huge in Omaha if all the elementary teachers are doing it.  Remember when school teachers weren’t paid enough to afford drugs?

I suppose you as the great writer you all live a mistake proof life. This woman made a very poor choice and will pay for it the rest of her life. She will have her judgement day and did not frankly ask your opinion. I wish I could find articles on the oustanding things that happen at our school.

  • Meredith,
I try to avoid the big doozies in life that get my name plastered all over the internet like poor pathetic Krista Crosby. And its not just one poor choice that this crappy teacher made. I mean, this wasn’t the first time she had used drugs, now was it? I would hazard to guess that you have to be pretty strung out for quite a while to burn out to the point where you forget to take drugs out of your purse.

She may not have asked my opinion, but I was more than happy to give it anyway. Ain’t freedom grand? If you find those articles on the outstanding that happen at your school, I would love to see it. But I bet its a short list.

  • what a fantastic school to send you kids to 😛

Hey Meredith, a mistake is being a teacher who is hooked on drugs, a problem is a teacher who cant deal with 3rd graders without a hit of the old horse to take the edge off.

I am sure there are good things that came out of that school, even the worst schools have had one or two shining stars… but the school seems to have a pretty bad reputation with teachers who prefer drugs over education.

  • Honestly, good things do happen in schools all the time. They are so common and the list is so very long that the media doesn’t pay attention. It’s sad that more positives aren’t covered, but it’s not that interesting to the public and the media is a business. They write about what people are interested in and the media has long ago decided that people aren’t interested in the good things that happened. (There are of course exceptions to that rule, like Michael Kelly of the Omaha World Herald, for example.) I wrote about this on my blog too. It was interesting to “hear” your perspective. Krista Crosby made a big time mistake. There are plenty of teachers who go through their whole entire careers without doing something like this … but people apparently aren’t interested in them. It’s sad.

  • Morgetron,

I do believe you about good things happening in schools. But those shining moments to me are simply buried beneath the mounds of negative things associated with school- like bullies, stupid kids that hog the teachers’ time, political correctness regarding religion, the refusal to teach right from wrong or the ability to judge the difference.

That kids graduate high school with a good education still amazes me to an extent knowing that the stumbling blocks to success are many.

Thanks for commenting on my story. Check out my “Why Homeschool” category for more stories like this and I’m gonna pop over and check out your blog too.

  • Hey Pat. I just posted something on education and I’d like to hear your perspective. If you have time, stop by.
