Monster.Com Resumes Harvested by Hackers

Over 1.6 Million resume records were stolen from Monster.Com’s internal servers by a trojan horse. It seems that some employers who have legitimate access to the Monster database were compromised and the hackers used their machines to siphon off the data, which included names, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses and resume ID numbers.

Tech.Blorge.Com has more info on it here. Hackers are using the stolen data to send out phishing emails that target job seekers with trojans. They go on to detail that the trojan also leeches away banking information and will encrypt local data with ransomware.

GeeksAreSexy details how this latest hacker attack was about the last thing that Monster.Com needed. Monster was busted cooking the books to award backdated stocks, CEO’s keep quitting, along with the CFO and 800 employees that were kicked out in layoffs due to bad profit losses.

From personal experience, this is not the first time that trojans have targeted Monster.Com user accounts. Job Seekers are important to the hacker underground, and not just for phishing targets. Many packages must be mailed in real life and criminal elements are constantly scouring Monster users to see if they will be package forwarders or other couriers or mules for their illicit activity.

Personally, I have done the Pepsi challenge between Monster and Hot Jobs. Hot Jobs is way better at finding jobs that fit your searches.
