Nigerian ID Thief and Spammer Arrested
Rilwan Soetan was on the most wanted list of the US Secret Service for running Nigerian 419 scams and stealing credit reports, which he then parlayed into full-on ID theft.
He was travelling to meet up with another victim, and in fact, he was in communication with several victims at the time when he was stopped by Florida Agriculture police. He had thousands of dollars in cash, several cell phones and files full of personal information on his victims.
From local6.com here:
A member of a notorious group of Nigerian identity scammers was arrested during a routine traffic stop in Florida, according to the Secret Service.
Rilwan Soetan, who is on the U.S. Secret Service’s “Most Wanted List,” was taken into custody. Police said Soetan is believed to be part of a $1.7 million identity theft scam and is part of an organized group of identity scammers who have ripped off more than 2,000 credit reports.
State Department of Agriculture agents stopped Soetan and found documents with people’s personal identifying information, multiple cell phones and $6,000 in cash.
I hope he meets with some real brutes in jail. I can see his next spam emails now, though:
