China Still Electrocuting Gamerz
This was found from a link on Drudge today. I had written previously about China employing electro-shocks to torture teens to help “cure” their so-called “internet addicitions.” And the government, which was running these torture sessions, were charging the kids’ families up to ten years’ worth of salaries to dole out this “cure.”
Well, I guess the program wasn’t working because now there is a new experimental program starting up, and they are looking for some volunteers to be cured of their cyber-addictions.
From Reuters here:
China is launching an experimental summer camp for 40 youngsters to try to wean them off their Internet addiction. The 10-day program would accept youngsters aged between 14 and 22 once they had undergone a psychological test and evaluation.
About 2.6 million — or 13 percent — of China’s 20 million Internet users under 18 are classed as addicts (by the communist chinese government).
The youngsters at the summer camp would be treated for depression, fear, unwillingness to interact with others, panic and agitation. It would appear to be offering a softer option than the Internet Addiction Treatment Centre near Beijing which uses a blend of therapy and military drills to treat children addicted to online games, Internet pornography and cybersex.
In a joint effort with the camp, Shanghai’s education commission has organized a volunteer group to patrol the city streets and stop minors entering Internet cafes.
I wonder if the groups stopping teens are the same groups used to destroy family dogs in the streets because the government did not want to spend 35 cents per animal on rabies vaccines?
Internet addicts in China don’t go around killing dogs in the streets.
