Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards
Spike aired the Guy’s Choice awards on TV last night. I can’t remember any awards show that has entertained me more than this one. Not only was it charged with all things manly like beer, chubby comics, and Carmen Electra dancing on the pole to ZZ Top, there were some really great moments too.
The most touching moment is when the Band Disturbed accepted the “Mantlers” for being the Ballsiest Band. They accepted the golden antler trophy but said that they were giving those trophies to MSG Dean Miles, currently serving in Iraq. MSG Miles wrote the band and told them that Disturbed was the 7th member of his squad. Before they enter hostile homes for search and clearing, they all listen to Disturbed to give them the guts and the balls to do so.
And then the Band members showed the Bronze Star of valor that MSG Dean Miles had won and given the band. It was quite touching, and it also made me laugh with pride to imagine a squad of America’s bravest kicking in doors of terrorists while Disturbed is blaring in the background.
Dave Attell was at the show and talked about touring Iraq with the USO to entertain the troops. And Pee Wee Herman even showed up to present an award, and the crowd gave Pee Wee a big standing O.
The night closed out with Adam Sandler accepting the Mantlers for being the Guy’s guy, and he introduced Styx.
If you haven’t seen it, check your listings. I’m sure Spike will replay the awards show soon. Or you can catch some clips at their website here. Great Job, Spike TV! Can’t wait til next year!
