Chinese Bridges Collapse

If you are ever in China you may be better off swimming over the rivers than crossing the bridges.  The Chinese seem to have cornered the market in bridge disasters, and its no wonder-  They let blind men build them!

A Chinese court has jailed two officials after they let a blind contractor build a bridge which collapsed during construction and injured 12 people.
 
“After the blind contractor changed the blueprint, he carried out the work only using a roughly drawn draft of the plan, which caused the bridge to collapse,” the report said.

Chinese News Agencies did not explain how the contractor was able to run the project considering his inability to see.

Here in the US, bridge collapses seem to be rather rare.  But if you google “chinese bridge disaster” you will see dozens of articles online about Chinese bridges collapsing due to poor workmanship or faulty plans, and hundreds of peasants who die in the collapse.  China has even sentenced Communist Party members to death because of falling bridges.  You would think they wouldn’t let any blind man with a napkin drawing become the project manager, but they do!
