New Bionic Woman

If you are under 35, you might not know who Jamie Sommers is, nor why she has a place in American Pop Culture. Jamie Sommers is the Bionic Woman, a young tennis star who nearly died in a skydiving accident. She was given advanced cybernetic implants and forced to work for the government as a spy/superhero.

NBC is remaking the show with a cute British woman by the name of Michelle Ryan as Jamie Sommers. I’m still waiting for someone to remake the Six Million Dollar Man, although I’m sure, with inflation, his name might be ten or even a hundred times that figure.

The new series is going to air this fall, and there are screen caps from the pilot episode from the Dailymail here:

Former Eastenders actress Michelle Ryan is set for massive success in the US with her new series the ‘Bionic Woman.’

Seen here in the first images released of her in the role, Ryan will play Jamie Sommers, a tennis pro who suffers a near-fatal skydiving accident before her body is transformed with £25million worth of bionic wizardry.

US TV bosses are so pleased with the pilot, they have commissioned a series which will be shown later this year.

Producers say the pilot show for US network NBC will be a “re-imagination” of the original, a spin-off from cult hit The Six Million Dollar Man, which ran from 1976 to 1978 and starred Lindsay Wagner.

I also hear that the series finale will feature Jamie Sommers selling Posturepedic matresses.
