Angelina Nabs Vietnamese Orphan

The description of the adoption seemed both bizarre and surreal.  Angelina was showered with flowers from tiny communist children while she was flanked by body guards.

Actress Angelina Jolie picked up a 3-year-old boy from a Vietnamese orphanage Thursday and headed to a ceremony where she was expected to adopt the child, officials said. The star, who arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday night, carried the boy from the Tam Binh orphanage to a waiting Toyota van.

About 20 children dressed in traditional Vietnamese tunics, called ao dai, and offering flowers welcomed the pair as they arrived at the orphanage.

Jolie, dressed in a black skirt and shirt, was preceded at the orphanage by a phalanx of private security guards.

But the most shocking aspect of the adoption in Vietnam is that the impoverished communist nation held a nationwide contest on state-run television to select the lucky child.  Three year old orphans from across the country sang and danced and demonstrated their sewing skills in order to win the votes from communal villages to be Angelina’s newest child.  Below is a photo of the final six.  The winner, and Brangelina’s newest child is Joon Lam, second from right in the photo below. 

She has the kid and will come back to the US this weekend.  I’m certain she will change his name.

Update:  Jolie named the kid Pax, which means peaceful.
