CAKE’s Latest Song

I am a big CAKE fan. No, not the type with frosting, the band. They have brilliant lyrics, progressive rhythm and the best trumpet playing in all of Rock and Roll.

Another thing that makes this band so incredible is that they like to cover hits from other artists. Now this is nothing all that unusual. Van Halen did it several times, most notably with “Jamie’s Cryin.” Nickelback did an awesome cover of “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting.” But what sets CAKE’s covers apart from the rest is how truly innovative their covers are and the new sound those old songs take.

A great example is Gloria Gaynor’s 70’s hit “I Will Survive.” CAKE redid this one and in my opinion, made it better, especially with the trumpet solo. And they increased the tempo a bit with Bread’s “Guitar Man,” and that old tune sounded much better.

But now CAKE has gone where no other artist has gone before. They have remade Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” And its better. Its hipper. Go to CAKE’s website here to listen to a sample before they change their homepage.
