Elephant Jihad in Indonesia?

The smallest of the Asian Elephants, the Sumatran, are being butchered. By Moslems. I’m not saying that the elephant slaughter has anything to do with religious reasons, such as failure to convert to Islam or making any artwork depicting Mohammed. Its just that the people killing the elephants are not Christian or Buddhist.

PEKANBARU, Indonesia Four wild elephants have been found dead in the jungles of Indonesia’s Sumatra island, and a conservationist said Friday he suspected they were deliberately poisoned.

Nurcholis Fadli from the conservation group WWF said the animals were found on Thursday in separate places near Segati, a village in Riau province 900 kilometers (600 miles) northwest of the capital Jakarta.

He said bottles of poison usually used to kill wild boars were found near carcasses of three elephants, while the fourth, the only male elephant in the group, was found about six 10 kilometers (6 miles) away.

Fadli said he believed villagers killed the elephants because they had been destroying crops, or because starving elephants had trampled at least four farmers to death last month.

He said he believed the dead elephants were from the same family in Tesso Nilo National Park, where several other elephants were found dead earlier this year.

“There were strong indications that the animals were intentionally poisoned,” Fadli told reporters in Pekanbaru. He urged authorities to take firm action to stop such killings.

He said at least 20 wild elephants have been killed this year.

So is this a Moslem revenge killing? Or is this just poor wildlife management? Sure men are encroaching on elephant habitats, but the government should do more to safely and humanely manage the elephants, not allow its citizens to kill them with pig poison.

And how do I know they are Moslem? Playing the odds, baby. Wiki says that the province is 88% Moslem.
