Adware and Spyware Companies Merge

Ick. Two nasty pesky software manufacturers have decided to join forces for nefarious purposes of polluting the internet and cluttering your desktop. Now you can have popup ads on steroids. Popup ads that will come to your house and impregnate your daughter.

You know your company is dirty when every enterprise in North America blocks your internet site. If every Antivirus company writes AV signatures to detect and remove your software, you must be a dirty company. And if you are an employee of one of those companies, you must be like the dirty crack whore of the software industry.

Advertising software makers 180solutions and Hotbar announced Wednesday that they have merged into a new business called Zango.

Bellevue, Wash.-based 180solutions makes software, including its now-namesake Zango Search Assistant, that delivers pop-up ads as people perform Web searches. Hotbar, based in New York, offers toolbars with ad displays for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, Outlook and Outlook Express.

In exchange for displaying ads, Zango and Hotbar give access to content such as videos, games and tools. Anti-spyware programs, however, typically flags both the Hotbar and the Zango software as “risky.”
