Stupid Phishers Targeting MySpace Accounts
I have spent a good part of the morning wracking my brain trying to figure out what value stolen credentials to MySpace.Com would have to a cyber-thief. I can’t figure it out. Myspace has no monetary value like banks. I would understand if you could install your own pay-per-click banners and use the stolen credentials to click on their own profiles, but MySpace doesnt allow this. So why steal the logins?
Apparantly phishers are IM’ing people links to a fake MySpace page which prompts users to login, and the phishers intercept the credentials. You can see a copy of the fake login page at the Websense site here.
Maybe these stupid hackers are using the stolen accounts to add themselves to friends lists, or give fake kudos to their blog entries. I cannot grasp why hackers would go out of their way to acquire this information.
